Children's Privacy

Last updated 21 August 2026

Family Thrive is designed to be set up and controlled by a parent or legal guardian. This notice, maintained by Family Thrive, explains exactly what we hold about a child and how you stay in control of it.

We hold very little about a child

The simplest way to describe our approach: a child in Family Thrive is a first name or nickname, an age, an avatar, and the chores, routines and rewards their own parent set up for them. We do not hold identity numbers, full legal names, addresses, locations, photographs, contact details or any government identifier for a child.

Mood and energy check-ins are simple entries a parent or guardian records for a child, chosen from a small set of options — they are not medical records, diagnoses or health data, and they are never assessed by us. They exist only so a parent can notice patterns in their own home, and we still handle them protectively because they are personal.

Children never have their own account

Children do not sign up, do not provide an email address, and cannot create an account. A parent adds a child profile, and a kid device is unlocked with a code the parent generates. There is no chat, no messaging, no social feed, no user-to-user contact, and no way for a child to share anything outside the family.

Parental consent

Before a child profile is created, the parent must confirm that they are the child's parent or legal guardian and consent to the information described below being stored. We record the date of that consent and which account gave it. You can withdraw consent at any time by deleting the child profile, which erases the child's data.

Children's privacy laws around the world

Family Thrive is used by families in many countries, and our model — an authenticated parent or guardian account holder creates and controls everything, children never register — is designed to satisfy each of the following:

United States (COPPA): we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 directly. A child's information is only entered by the parent or guardian, who gives consent through their own authenticated account before a child profile exists, and who can review, export or delete it at any time and refuse any further collection.

EEA (GDPR Article 8) and the United Kingdom: the digital-consent age varies between 13 and 16 by member state. Because consent is always given and held by the parent or guardian rather than the child, this notice applies to every child regardless of the age set in your country. We also follow the UK Age Appropriate Design Code: privacy-by-default settings, no profiling, no nudge techniques, and data minimisation for anyone under 18.

South Africa (POPIA): a child is anyone under 18, and their personal information is processed only with the consent of a competent person — the parent or guardian who holds the account.

There is no advertising, no in-app purchasing by children, no geolocation, no user-to-user contact and no public content anywhere in Kid Mode.

What we store about a child

First name or nickname, age, a chosen avatar and colour, interests and goals, a device code; and the content the family creates for them: chores, routines and completion streaks, reward requests and points, mood and energy check-ins recorded by a parent, and any consequence log entries a parent writes.

We do not collect a child's email address, phone number, precise or approximate location, identity or ID numbers, photographs, contacts, biometric data, or device advertising identifiers. Mood and energy check-ins are wellbeing entries recorded by a parent rather than health or medical data, and are visible only to the parents in that child's family.

No advertising or profiling

Children's data is never used for advertising, never sold, never shared with data brokers, and never used to build a behavioural profile. The app contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

Co-parents

If your family uses co-parenting, only the children you explicitly switch on are visible to the co-parent, together with those children's routines, chores, rewards and wellbeing. You can turn a child's sharing off at any time in Settings.

Retention and deletion

Mood and consequence entries older than your chosen retention window (24 months by default) are purged. Deleting a child profile immediately deletes that child's chores, routines, moods, consequences and reward requests. Deleting your account removes the whole family's data.

Parental rights

As the parent you can review, correct, export or delete your child's information at any time in the app, and you may refuse further collection by deleting the profile. For any request we can't handle in-app, email familythrivetechnologies@gmail.com and we'll respond within 30 days.
